Oliver Dawson Sets Another Canadian Record With 59.55 100 Breast

2026 AP RACE LONDON INTERNATIONAL

18 year old Oliver Dawson swam to his 2nd Canadian Record of this weekend, this time touching in a 59.55 in the 100 breast. Dawson breaks the record of a 59.85 set by Scott Dickens at the 2012 Olympic Games during prelims.

Dawson also broke Dickens’ record in the 50 breast this weekend as Dawson swam a 27.29, faster than Dickens’ old record of a 27.49 from 2009 during the supersuited era.

Split Comparison

Dawson Dickens
50 28.24 28.04
100 31.31 31.81
59.55 59.85

Dawson was out 0.20 seconds slower than Dickens was but came back half a second faster to get under the old record.

This marks Dawson’s 2nd individual and 3rd overall Canadian Record for the 18 year old Dawson. He is a member of the Canadian men’s 4×100 medley relay record as he split a 59.99 at the 2025 World Championships to help them to a 5th place finish and National Record. With the help of Dawson’s progression, that relay will look to break that record once again.

Dawson has had a strong spring so far as he entered the year with a best time of a 1:00.28 that he swam during prelims of the 2025 World Junior Championships. He went on to finish 6th in that final with a 1:00.38.

Dawson will come to the U.S. this fall to join the Indiana Hoosiers, an NCAA program known for developing breaststrokers well. He will have the chance to train alongside Josh Matheny, Alexei Avakov, and Van Mathias.
