The Michigan State men and women successfully swam past Wayne State this weekend to add wins to their respective records. The men finished with a dominating 155-67 while the women also won by a large margin, 150-86.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Winning all but one event on the afternoon, the Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team cruised to a 150-86 win over Wayne State University, Friday, Jan. 22, in Jones Natatorium. The Eagles (4-1, 2-0) won the first 11 events en route to the non-conference dual victory. Sophomore Alli Shereda (Fraser, Mich.-Fraser) and junior Sierra Wagner (Huntsville, Texas-Huntsville) won two events each to pace the Green and White.
Shereda opened the meet with a sweep of the springboard, posting scores of 270.52 and 318.98 to take the crown in both the 1 and 3 meter events. Fellow sophomore Emily Tubbs(Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) followed suit, finishing runner-up in each event while freshmanGabrielle Mace posted a season-best on her way to a third place finish in the 1-meter.
Wayne State closed the gap as the meet turned to the swimming events, but a first place finish by the Eagles in the 200 Medley Relay kept the Green and White in front. Junior Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) teamed up with junior Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering), junior Carly Jackson (LaPorte, Ind.-LaPorte), and senior Mary Kate MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Detroit Country Day), besting the competition with a time of 1:44.00.
The Eagles success carried over into the 1000 Freestyle thanks to a pair of sophomores.Sarah Dombkowski (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) won her first event of the season, touching in well ahead of the field while Rosalie Yockey (DeWitt, Mich.-DeWitt) completed the one-two punch with a second place finish.
The Green and White posted its first sweep in the 200 Free, taking the top-five spots in the event. Junior Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) led the way, winning the event while freshman Stephanie Johnston was runner-up. Sophmore Hannah Newell (Ames, Iowa-Ames) finished third.
A tight race in the 50 Free ended in favor of the Green and White as Wagner led the way. Wagner touched in with a time of 23.81 to beat out Wayne State’s Lezlie Bueno Estrada. Freshman Michal Liberman‘s (Rosh Haayin, Israel-Begin) time of 24.59 ranked third, giving the international swimmer her first top-three finish of the season in the event.
A sweep in the 200 Individual Medley increased the Eagles hefty lead. Senior Clarice Daniel(Belcamp, Md.) won the event, edging out junior teammate Makenzie Garringer (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon). Daniel clocked in at 2:09.58 while Garringer finished up in 2:09.85. Freshman Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) rounded out the top three, taking third.
Ahead by a comfortable margin, the Eagles deferred points to the Warriors. Jackson posted her fifth win of the season in the 100 Butterfly before Wagner recorded her second win of the day in the 100 Free. MacLean followed Wagner with a win in the 100 Backstroke before senior Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) won the 500 Free. Touching in with a time of 5:01.14, Detro’s time was 16 seconds faster than any Warrior.
With a win in the 200 Free Relay to close out competition, the Eagles soared past the Warriors by a final score of 150-86.
EMU returns to the pool tomorrow, Jan. 23, in Akron, Ohio. The quick turnaround pits the Eagles against Mid-American Conference preseason favorite, Akron. Competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

The Green and White continued its relay dominance in the 200 Medley Relay, winning the event for the fourth time this season behind junior Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson), junior Kyle Aerne (Lake Villa, Ill.-Lakes), senior Erik Gissen (Karlstad, Sweden-Alvkullegymnasiet), and junior Erik Brinkhoff (Bethel Park, Pa.-Bethel Park). The foursome touched in with a time of 1:32.36. Freshman Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary)and seniors Chris Hodges (Lincolnshire, Ill.-Stevenson), Krzysztof Gilski (Dywity, Poland-Adam Mickiewicz State Secondary), and Dylan Crompton (Redford, Mich.-Thurston), clocked in in third.
Junior Kyle Lichtenberg (Clarkston, Mich.) touched in nearly 20 seconds ahead of a Wayne State swimmer on his way to collecting his first win of the season in the 1000 Free. JuniorChris Cutter (Fishers, Ind.-Fishers) claimed second while junior Marcin Rzyski (Olsztyn, Poland-Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace #4) placed third as the Eagles collected their third sweep of the afternoon.
The momentum carried over into the 200 Free for the Eagles where sophomore Logan Burton(Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory), freshman Jean-Francois Murphy (Montreal, Quebec-Sainte-Anne), and sophomore Josh Kreider (Coopersburg, Pa.-Southern Lehigh) swept the event.
After Brinkhoff and Gissen placed second and third, respectively, in the 50 Free, Henry and Aerne claimed a pair of top-three spots in the 200 Individual Medley. Henry won the event, while Aerne rounded out the top three, in third.
With the dual in hand and a substantial lead, the Eagles deferred points for the remainder of the dual. Sophomore Connor Johnson (Fort Bragg, N.C.-Terry Sanford) registered his third consecutive win in the 100 Butterfly and Henry returned to the pool to win the 100 Free before Bateman (100 Back), Rzyski (500 Free), and Hodges (100 Breast) racked up wins to close out the individual races.
The Eagles closed out the dual with a win in the 200 Free Relay, ending the meet 155-67 in favor of the home team.
Eastern takes a brief break from competition, before returning to the pool, Feb. 6, in Oxford, Ohio for a Mid-American Conference dual against Miami.

RELAY RESULTS
– The quartet of junior Juan David Molina Perez (Medellin, Colombia), freshmen Grzegorz Klos (Ruda Slaska, Poland) and Rasmus Olsen (Kastrup, Denmark), and senior Jayson Hansen (Grand Blanc, Mich.) notched a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:32.81).
– Seniors Eric Gensheimer (Farmington, Mich.) and Ben Winn (Washington, Mich. / Romeo), and freshmen Dmytro Drobnych (Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine) and Blake Wheeler (Holland, Mich. / West Ottawa) finished third in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:26.41.
INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
– Hansen won the 50 free with a mark of 21.25, while Molina Perez finished fourth with a time of 21.61.
– Klos earned a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 1:52.44.
– Junior Mitch Bohr (Novi, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) swam the 100 fly in 51.90 to place second.
– In the 100 breast Hansen finished third, touching the finish line in 57.32.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
– Junior Emily Heitchue (Royal Oak, Mich.) won the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.49
– Freshman Lezlie Bueno Estrada (Montes Urales, Mexico) recorded a second-place finish in the 50 free with a mark of 24.23.
– Junior Elizabeth Rawlings (Armada, Mich. / Romeo) scored 273.90 in the three-meter diving to place third. Rawlings also finished fourth in the one-meter diving with a mark of 238.20.
– Freshman Ellie Dean (Midland, Mich. / Dow) notched a third-place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 10:42.00.
– In the 200 IM freshman Tai Furnari (Pleasant Ridge, Mich. / Ferndale) placed fourth (2:13.39), while Berich and Marginean finished fifth (2:16.39) and sixth (2:17.42), respectively.
