Bobby Button Joins TCU Swimming & Diving Staff

TCU swimming and diving head coach Richard Sybesma announced that Bobby Button has joined the staff as a graduate assistant. Button will take over the role of director of operations in January.

“We are very excited to have Bobby join our staff,” Sybesma said. “His experience in collegiate swimming will be very beneficial to our program.”

Button, a 2014 graduate of the University of Texas, was a member of the Big 12 Team for three years and helped Texas earn three conference championships. During his swimming career, he posted personal-best times of 43.91 in the 100-yard freestyle, 1:35.48 in the 200 free and a time of 4:21.58 in the 500 free.

Button saw a four-second improvement in his 200-yard freestyle and a 15-second upgrade in the 500 free during his tenure in Austin. In 2013, Button qualified for the U.S. Open Swimming Championships. While at Texas, he was also a Longhorn Swim Camp coach.

After graduating, Button went on a six-month hike with his father, Bob, as they traversed the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. The feat began in February and ended in July of 2015.

Before Texas, Button was a state champion swimmer at Timberview High School in Mansfield. As a senior, he was the Texas UIL Class 4A champion in the 200 freestyle.

Button was born in Bay City, Texas and comes from a direct family of athletes. His father, Bob, was a swimmer at Indiana State, and his mother, Clare, ran track at Texas.
