Three More Swimmers Grab Pan Am Games Roster Spots At Mexican Nationals

On the fourth day of competition at the 2015 Mexican Swimming Championships, three more swimmers were added to the Pan Am Games roster and three swimmers who already made it managed to grab another swim.

Maria Fernanda Richaud Leyva started things off with a win in the 200m freestyle. At the touch she was a 2:02.92 to take down Natalia Jaspead Becerra. Becerra already grabbed a spot on the roster on night three with a win in the 400m freestyle. She was a a 2:03.51 tonight to also dip under the qualifying standard in the 200.

As for the men, only one swimmer will be heading to Toronto this summer for the 200m freestyle as Long Yuan Miguel Gutierrez Feng grabbed the 200 free title in 1:51.33. He won by a sizable margin, adding a second swim to his schedule after grabbing a roster spot in the 100 fly on night three.

The women’s 100m breaststroke proved to be a very tight race as the top three all went under the Pan Am Games standard. First to the wall was Arantxa Medina Alegria in 1:10.59. She was just slightly ahead of Esther Gonzalez Medina who rocked a 1:10.68 for second. Third was Ana Daniela Carillo Avilez who was just four one-hundredths shy of a roster spot with her 1:10.72.

On the men’s side Miguel Alejandro De Lara Ojeda won the men’s 100m breaststroke in a swift 1:02.36.

To round out the women’s competition for the night, Liliana Ibanez Lopez claimed gold in the women’s 50m fly with a time of 28.20. She was just slightly ahead of Esther Gonzalez Medina, who finished second in the 100m breast. Medina was a 28.23 at the wall.

The only record of the night came from Mateo Gonzalez Medina who broke the 17-18 age-group record in the men’s 50m fly. There, he swam a 24.75 to finish fourth overall in the open final and become the first Mexican swimmer to break 25-seconds at 18-years-old. 200 free winner Long Yuan Miguel Gutierrez Feng was the winner in the 50m fly final with a 24.56.

Long Yuan Miguel Gutierrez Feng needs more names. It’s too easy to confuse him with the other Long Yuan Miguel Gutierrez’s. Not to mention Long Gutierrez of Cal.
