TCU Signs 2 Men, 4 Women in Spring Period, Including 45.1 100 Yard Freestyler Drewes

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU swimming and diving announced the signings of six future Horned Frogs to National Letters of Intent, bringing the total to 23 during fall and spring signing periods.

The spring signees include: Jonathan Drewes, Ross Sullivan, Madison Ibrahim, Rileigh Thornton, Megan Bowers and Kelli Funk.

Four of signees come from Texas, while the two divers in the spring signing class are from Arizona and California.

Drewes, from Missouri City, Texas, competes for Clements High School and First Colony Swim Team. At this year’s Texas 6A State Championships, he placed second in both the 100 free at 45.11 and the 50 free at 20.51. CollegeSwimming.com ranks him as the No. 6 swimming in the state of Texas.

Sullivan, a native of Austin, Texas, swims for McNeil High School and Lone Star Aquatics. At the 2014-15 Texas 6A State Championships in February, he posted a time of 45.16 in the 100-yard freestyle and placed third. His top time in the 50 free came at a mark of 20.98 seconds. Sullivan is ranked No. 13 in the state of Texas, according to CollegeSwimming.com.

Ibrahim, also from Austin, competes for Vandegrift High School and Nitro Swimming. At the 2015 American Short Course Championships, she tallied a third-place finish in the 100 back at 55.55, and also racked up a time of 2:02.15 in the 200 back. Ibrahim is ranked in the top 25 in the state of Texas, according to CollegeSwimming.com.

Thornton, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, swims for Flower Mound Marcus High School and the Lakeside Aquatic Club. Her top times include: 200 back at 2:04.36, 50 free at 24.38 and the 100 free at 52.98.

Megan Bowers, from Gilbert, Arizona, competes for Gilbert Classical Academy and the Sun Devil Divers. She has competed at the last eight USA Diving Summer Junior Regional Championships and she recorded a pair of top three finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dive events at the most recent pre-regional meet.

Kelli Funk, a native of Fresno, California, is a diver for Clovis West High School and Clovis Dive Club. Funk has also competed in the last two USA Diving Summer Junior Zone Championships and finished second at the 2015 Clovis West Diving Invitational.
