2026 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials

Welcome to the second night of finals of the 2026 Canadian Swimming Trials, the primary selection competition being used to determine the Canadian squad for the Pan Pacific Championships. Tonight, swim fans will be treated to finals in the 400m IM, 100m freestyle, and 50m backstroke for both women and men, in addition to a plethora of para events.

Women’s 400m IM – Final

  • World Record: 4:23.65 – Summer McIntosh, Canada (2025)
  • Canadian Record: 4:23.65 – Summer McIntosh (2025)
  • World Aquatics ‘A’ Standard: 4:43.06

Results:

  1. Summer McIntosh, 4:27.35
  2. Ella Jansen, 4:38.17
  3. Mary-Sophie Harvey, 4:43.26

After setting a new World Record in the women’s 200 butterfly last night, Summer McIntosh had another strong swim, touching in a 4:27.35 in the 400 IM. That is just 0.04 off her World leading 4:27.31 that she swam a month ago while in Austin, Texas.

McIntosh led the entire race and was out in a 59.92 at the 100 mark. She was out in a 59.18 on the fly leg of the race when she swam her World Record 4:23.65 at Canadian Trials a year ago.

Ella Jansen touched in a 4:38.17 here for 2nd, just off her lifetime best of a 4:37.35 from 2023. Today’s swim was her 2nd fastest of her career.

Mary-Sophie Harvey was 3rd in a 4:43.26. Harvey has been as fast as a 4:34.29, a time from the Canet stop of the Mare Nostrum tour this year in May. That time sits at #5 in the World so far this season.

Men’s 400m IM – Final

  • World Record: 4:02.50 – Leon Marchand, France (4:02.50)
  • Canadian Record: 4:11.41 – Brian Johns (2008)
  • World Aquatics ‘A’ Standard: 4:17.48

Results:

  1. Lorne Wigginton, 4:11.31 NEW CANADIAN RECORD
  2. Tristan Jankovics, 4:16.57
  3. Jaques Harrison, 4:20.78

Lorne Wigginton swam to a new Canadian Record, touching in a 4;11.31. That breaks the previous record of a 4:11.41 from Brian Johns in 2008. That was the oldest LCM record standing on the men’s side. Wigginton drops a second and a half off his lifetime best 4:12.81 that he swam in 2023 at World Juniors for bronze.

After posting the top time in prelims, Tristan Jankovics was 2nd in a 4:16.57. He has ben as fast as a 4:11.74 before, a time he swam at 2024 Canadian Trials to punch his ticket to the Paris Olympics.

Women’s 100m Freestyle – Final

Results:

  1. Taylor Ruck, 53.06
  2. Sarah Fournier, 54.75
  3. Leah Tigert, 54.76

Taylor Ruck continues to have a strong week, posting a 53.06 100 free. That marks her fastest time in the event since the 2019 World Championships when she swam a 53.03. Her lifetime best is a 52.72 from the 2018 Pan Pac Championships. She flipped in a 25.33 to lead by a full second at the halfway mark.

Sarah Fournier was 2nd in a 54.75, just three tenths off her lifetime best of a 54.45 that she swam in May 2025 at the Pro Series stop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Men’s 100m Freestyle – Final

  • World Record: 46.40 – Pan Zhanle, China (2024)
  • Canadian Record: 47.27 – Brent Hayden (2009)
  • World Aquatics ‘A’ Standard: 48.34

Results:

  1. Ruslan Gaziev, 48.69
  2. Antoine Sauve, 49.16
  3. Finlay Knox, 49.20

Ruslan Gaziev led the 100 free from start to finish, flipping in a 23.40 ahead of Laon Kim who was 2nd with a 23.59 at the turn before falling to 5th in a 49.39. Gaziev touched in a 48.69 for the win, about four tenths off his best time of a 48.27 from the 2023 World Championships.

Sauve, the Canadian record holder in the 200 free, touched 2nd in a 49.16. His lifetime best if a 48.42 from last year’s Canadian Trials.

Women’s 50m Backstroke – Final

  • World Record: 26.86 – Kaylee McKeown, Australia (2023)
  • Canadian Record: 27.13 – Kylie Masse (2025)
  • World Aquatics ‘A’ Standard: 28.22

Results:

  1. Kylie Masse, 27.35
  2. Ingrid Wilm, 27.82
  3. Madison Kryger, 28.27

Kylie Masse swam to a season best 27.35 for the win, moving her up from #18 (27.57) to #10 in this season’s World rankings. Ingrid Wilm has been as fast as a 27.53 this season, a time that now moves to 17th so far this season. Wilm was 2nd in a 27.82.

Men’s 50m Backstroke – Final

Women’s 1500m Freestyle – Fastest Heat

  • World Record: 15:20.48 – Katie Ledecky, United States (2018)
  • Canadian Record: 15:57.15 – Brittany MacLean (2014)
  • World Aquatics ‘A’ Standard: 16:24.56

Para Highlights

Danielle Dorris won the women’s S5-S7 50 fly in a 34.43.

Sebastian Massabie set a new Canadian Para Record while racing in the men’s S5-S7 50 fly, touching in a 35.21.

4:27 is solid.
It’s clear her focus was the 200 fly and I’m sure her real focus in general is Commonwealth Games, which should be an incredible meet as a whole. I’m so excited for the end of this summer. How many WR’s will have gone down by September?

I was at the pool yesterday so I didn’t realise how poor quality was the live stream 😭. I’m glad I filmed the race with my phone cause the quality is way better

Rereading their selection criteria, she could get added by the High Performance Director as priority 5 if she doesn’t qualify otherwise but I think that depends on others not hitting WA A standards
