2016 Olympics Pick ‘Em Contest, Day 3 Results

2016 RIO OLYMPIC GAMES

We’re almost halfway through our Pick ‘Em contest, and the field is beginning to spread out.  With a 33-point third day, Stephen C. has jumped into the lead with 118 points.  Greg Lombana is second with 115 points, and ArizonaUSA is just behind with 114.

Much like yesterday, we had a log jam at the top of the daily leaderboard, with 12 contestants tying for the daily lead with 33 points:

Spreadsheet of all entries and scores

  • Definitely a first in SwimSwam history: we had three top-three goose eggs, and a fourth near-goose egg from our contestants:
    • Nobody picked Chad le Clos the win silver in the 200 freestyle.  Just two contestants picked le Clos to medal at all (one guessed gold, one guessed bronze)
    • Nobody picked Jiayu Xu of China to win silver in the men’s 100 backstroke.  Just four contestants picked Jiayu to medal (all four guessed bronze)
    • Just two athletes picked Katie Baker to finish second in the women’s 100 backstroke
    • Nobody selected Yuliya Efimova to finish second in the women’s 100 breaststroke… but we’ll let her eligibility saga take the blame for that (and us not including her in the list)
  • Ryan Murphy (306 first place picks, or ~60%), Sun Yang (300 first place picks, or 60%), and Lilly King (294 first place picks, or ~60%) were correct and common first place selections from our readers
  • The women’s 100 backstroke was a struggle: Just 47 contestants (<10%) scored any points in the event, and that’s with two shots at picking a bronze medalist!

If 12 people tie for the lead, do all 12 get the daily prize pack? (Goggles and cap?)
