Willamette University (Oregon) Hires Ailton Temotio As New Assistant

Temotio_AiltonAilton Temotio is returning to the state of Oregon where he trained at the end of his high school career to be the assistant at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.

“I’m very excited to welcome Coach Temotio to Willamette University and Bearcat swimming,” Head Coach Leslie Shevlin said. “He will bring to the pool knowledge about swimmer development and a passion for creating fast swimmers.”

“I also believe that his diverse background will enhance our mission to create productive and successful student-athletes outside the water. I am looking forward to ideas he can bring to our sprint program on deck and to our recruiting efforts behind the scenes.”

The Brazilian native competed for the nearby McMinville Swim Club after moving to the United States at 16 years old, and would go on to get a degree in Marketing from East Carolina, where he swam for four seasons, in 2012. He is on the East Carolina school record holding 200 and 400 yard medley relays, in both instances as the butterflier.

Since graduating from East Carolina, Temotio has been coaching age group swimmers at the West Houston Aquatic Team (WHAT) in Houston, Texas.

Willamette is a Division III University that competes in the Northwest Conference. At last year’s conference championship meet, the Willamette women finished just 8th out of 8 teams, and the Willamette men finished 5th out of 8 teams.
