12-year-old Destin Lasco went 25.02 in the 50 yard backstroke at the Middle Atlantic Age Group Invitational, breaking the previous National Age Group record of 25.14 set by Seth Beer in 2009.
Lasco, who swims for Pleasantville Aquatics in Pleasantville, New Jersey, has already put his name in the 11-12 NAG record book for the 100 yard back, as well as several backstroke records in the 10&under category.
The MA Elite Meet continues through Monday at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in New Jersey.

Max – I will ask his father, but given the way commenters on here usually react to pictures of fast young swimmers, it wouldn’t surprise me if they declined to share one.
Go Destin, Not only a talented swimmer but a great kid!!!
I remember the first NAG record I ever saw broken in person was Seth Beer’s 50 back back in ’09. Congrats to Lasco on breaking it – bright future!
Congrats to him!
And he also swam a 200 free in 1.48.93 and a 200 back in 1.57.11 before his NAG record!
I watched him for the first time at the Tom Dolan Invitational and I was really impressed by his beautiful technique, especially on backstroke and on freestyle.
And he looks like a normal 12-year-old boy. Not very tall.
Very special talent.
