Allie Petersen, a senior at Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin, verbally committed to swim for the University of Kentucky for the 2015-2016 season, this morning.
Petersen is a breaststroke specialist, representing Ozaukee Aquatics. She competed at the 2014 Summer Junior Nationals, held in Irvine, placing 92nd in the 100 Breast. Soon after, she competed at the 2014 NCSA Long Course Junior Nationals, held in Indianapolis, placing 21st in the 100 Breast, 13th in the 50 Breast, and 30th in the 200 Breast.

She Is Improving
Despite not having as good of a long course season as she did in 2013, when both of her best 100/200 Breast times were achieved, Petersen’s great form was still visible this summer with a 34.18 in the 50 Breast. She had her best short course season in 2014, as a junior, going best times in the 50, 100, and 200 Breast. Her short course progression has been excellent across the board, as she has dropped about half a second per season in the 100 Breast and about a second per season in the 200 Breast.
The Kentucky Wildcats finished tenth at the 2014 SEC Championships, under first-year Head Coach Lars Jorgensen. While her times are not quite at the scoring level yet, Petersen still has one more year to develop her speed and endurance, before joining the Wildcats in the deep SEC. Once at Kentucky, she will have Kendra Crew, among other young and talented breaststrokers to push her in training.
