Aaron Whitaker
Aaron Whitaker is a backstroke and butterfly specialist at the University of Michigan. Whitaker was born June 6, 1995, and is apart of a swimming family dynasty – his brother, Kyle Whitaker, was a Michigan sensation, and his brother, Ethan, and sister, Talor, swim at Navy and Washington State. Currently a freshman, Whitaker already has made his mark on Michigan swimming. He earned NCAA All-America honors on the 400 medley relay, and Honorable Mention honors in the 200 backstroke and 200 medley relay. Whitaker was also a member of USA Swimming’s National Junior Team. Originally from Indiana, Whitaker swam for Chesterton High School and competed club for Duneland Swimming. During his senior year Whitaker joined Chesterton teammates to break the National Public High School Record in the 200 medley relay, swimming the backstroke leg. Whitaker came into college as an elite sprint backstroke swimmer already, but had similar versatility to his brother, Kyle, who was a National High School Record Holder in the 200 IM.
Michigan
2014-2015
Whitaker is currently in his freshman season as a Michigan Wolverine. He earned All-America honors as a member of the 400 and 200 medley relays, and he also finished 15th in the 200 backstroke and 29th in the 100 butterfly. At his first Big Ten meet Whitaker came in the top eight in all of his individual events.
National Competition
As a swimmer at Chesterton High School Whitaker broke four Indiana state records including the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. His junior year Whitaker won four state championships, and as a senior he won the 2013-14 Duneland Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year. Whitaker was also a member of USA Swimming’s National Junior Team from 2013-2014, and a 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier.
