This focus group and survey will be done by Krista Kezbers, who is finishing her Ph. D.

Usually our sport is always about swimmers, and it never truly goes past them. We are consumed with their mental and physical health around the clock. Sometimes we neglect the coaches, the ones who make the swimmers.

Krista Kezbers is changing that. She is inviting anyone to participate in an online survey and an in-person focus group about the health and well-being of swim coaches. This study aims to understand the experiences and perceptions of swim coaches as it pertains to their health and well-being.

She will be conducting this study as part of the requirements for her Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

All focus groups will be conducting during the 2016 ASCA World Clinic in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at the Marriott Harbor Beach Hotel (Conference Hotel). This study has been approved by the American Swim Coaches Association.

Here, you can participate and take the survey. At the end of the survey, if you are interested in participating in the focus group, please select the box and Krista will contact you about participation.

If you have any questions, please contact [email protected]

The above description is misleading. She is wanting to survey SWIM COACHES, not ANYONE. This research piqued my interest; as a criminologist/researcher with a Ph.D. who studies social issues related to sport and a former D1 college swimmer, I found the subject compelling, and I care very deeply about doctoral student success (especially dissertation completion). I would have liked to participate as a research subject. However, the information above is inaccurate — the survey is only for active coaches.

I hope she will share the results of her work on Swim Swam.

Without the great coaches in the USA, there wouldn’t be all the medal winners at the Olympics.

It takes a lot of skills to succeed as a swim coach over the long-term. So much knowledge of the sport as well as the ability to motivate and connect with your swimmers.

Hilarious question! Must be from a coach or a hospitality chairperson
