WATCH: Kelsi Dahlia Brings Home Mesa 50 Fly Shootout Title

2018 TYR PRO SWIM SERIES – MESA

The stroke shootouts were back at the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series stop in Mesa. This was just the 2nd time we’ve seen the stroke 50s in this format, as swimmers competed in shootouts for the first time at the Austin Pro Swim in January. In the shootouts, the top 8 swimmers in each of the respective strokes will compete in the quarterfinal. The 4 fastest swimmers then move on to the semifinal, with the fastest 2 from the semifinal moving on to the final. Those swimmers then go head-to-head to determine the winner.

The women’s 50 fly field included Olympic butterfliers Kelsi Dahlia, Farida Osman, and Louise Hansson. All 3 moved on to the semifinal along with U.S. National Teamer Hellen Moffitt, but it was Dahia and Osman advancing to the final. Dahlia, the American Record holder, used her killer underwaters to take the advantage, taking the win in 25.80 to break Dana Vollmer’s former Pro Swim Series Record. Osman was 2nd in 26.95.
