March 24th, 2014 College, News, Video

4 strokes on first length, and then 6 on the rest, for a 200 breaststroke! Great stroke count. How does she do it? Her Notre Dame Coach, Brian Barnes talk about what they do in the weight room (how much can she squat), and in the water, to prepare.

After swimming at conference meet, where she first broke the American Record going 2:04.34  a, she described not knowing she broke it until a few minutes after the race. At NCAA’s she broke it again, going 2:04.06.

She is the first person in Notre Dame history to win a national title.

This summer, she is going to swim at SwimMAC with other “big dogs”. “I guess I am a big dog now too!”

Goal: Pan Pacific Games this summer. Good luck to you, Emma.

Bobby, only pretty sure Barnes worked with Marsh. Also hard to beat training under him with his track record and currently being the coach of Micah Lawrence.. A summer training in that environment, what’s not to like? She could also be auditioning it as a place to go post grad.. No better time than summer of 2014, might make a splash and land on a NT.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Stick w Barnes as he is obviously doing something right. Marsh is great no doubt, but when you are breaking American records, why attempt to change?

CoachErik – totally agree with you.
Barnes coached with Dave Marsh at Auburn and the two have tremendous respect for each other. This is a way for Emma to see who she wants to swim with post college – much like an internship that a rising senior would have with a company within a student’s major. I sense Brian encouraged her to do this. The extra competition with other world class breaststrokers in daily workouts should benefit Emma. Good luck to her this summer and Go Irish!!

I would like to watch her race and a few others but there’s absolutely nothing on youtube so far. 😥
Amazing college season for Emma Reaney.
Training with Micaw Lawrence at SwimMAC can only be beneficial to her.
Nobody really knows her long course potential.
We’ll have the answer next August.
