Torri Huske Breaks Her Own American Record With 55.64 100 Fly

2022 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

On day 2 of the 2022 FINA World Championships, Torri Huske won the women’s 100 fly final in a time of 55.64, breaking her own American record time of 55.66 set at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials last year. Huske’s time was also 0.16 seconds off Sarah Sjostrom‘s world record of 55.48 from the 2016 Rio Olympics, and ties for the fifth-fastest performance of all time.

Opening her race in 25.72, Huske was 0.29 seconds faster than Sjostrom’s opening split of 26.01 from when she broke the world record. However, the world record started to escape Huske in final few meters of the race, and she closed 29.92 compared to Sjostrom’s 29.47 final 50 split.

Huske’s back half split today was actually 0.09 seconds faster than her back half split from her old American record time, but she was 0.07 seconds slower than last year on her front half.

The 55.64 that Huske swam was her second best time set in this meet, as yesterday, she led off USA’s 4×100 free relay in a new personal best of 52.96 to become the third-fastest American of all time in the women’s 100 free.

Very surprised how close to the WR. This is setting up an interesting ‘rivalry’ in the 100 Fly – this Olympic cycle is gonna be interesting.

Someone messed up the math on Sjostrom’s WR splits. It’s only time until Huske cracks that record. She’s amazing.
