Sarah Sjostrom racked up another win at Swedish Nationals, this time winning the women’s 100 fly with a blistering 55.95 to blow away the field. That swim was a bit off her season-best, as she’s already been a 55.68 this year in March, but it would still make her the fastest woman in the world this year had she not already been faster. Taking 2nd behind Sjostrom and also clearing 1:00 was Louise Hansson in 59.20.
Michelle Coleman, who was 2nd behind Sjostrom in the 200 free on day 1, swam to a dominating victory in the 200 back. Coleman swam a 2:11.59 to win by nearly 2nd. That was a new meet record, breaking her own record of 2:12.99 from 2014.
In the men’s 100 back, Simon Sjodin clocked a 55.91 to power ahead of a field that included Mattias Carlsson, the Swedish Record holder in this event. Carlsson wound up 3rd with a 56.31, just behind silver medalist Gustav Hokfelt (56.15).
Adam Paulsson closed in on the 4:20 barrier to win the men’s 400 IM. Paulsson touched the wall in 4:20.23 to put himself well ahead of the field. Taking 2nd was Kristian Kron, who swam for the University of Utah, in 4:26.07.
Kron was also part of the Helsingborgs relay team that set a new Swedish Record in the 800 free relay. He took the leadoff leg, getting things started with a 1:53.51. Jonas Holmstrom (1:50.99) and Christoffer Carlsen (1:50.89) put up a pair of 1:50 splits on the middle portion of the relay to set up Isaak Eliasson for his 1:49.85 anchor on the way to the team gold. Their overall time was 7:25.24, well under the previous record of 7:29.59.
