PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2015) – After a week off from competition, the Rutgers swimming and diving team returns to the pool for its first home event of the season, hosting the Sonny Werblin Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the RU Aquatics Center.
The Invite marks the season debut for the Scarlet Knight divers, and features athletes from Southern Connecticut State, Bridgeport and multiple club programs.
Friday’s portion will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will be comprised of the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay and the three meter dive.
Saturday’s events will be split into two sessions, with the first commencing at 9 a.m. with the 200 medley relay, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 fly, 200 freestyle relay and the one meter dive.
The second Saturday session includes the 1650 freestyle, 100 fly, 400 individual medley, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 freestyle relay.

RU opened the season at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational (Oct. 2-3), where the Scarlet Knights finished fourth in the six-team field with a team score of 297.5.
Senior Joana Wu (Kent, Wash.) produced two first-place finishes during the FGCU Invite, securing NCAA B qualifying standard times in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events. For her efforts, Wu was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, the first time a Rutgers’ swimmer was recognized by the conference for the weekly honor.
After the Sonny Werblin Invitational, the Scarlet Knights return to action on Friday, Oct. 23 to host Wagner and the RU Aquatics Center.
