RALEIGH, N.C.- Coming off its fourth-straight All-NC Invitational title, the NC State women’s swimming and diving team is set for its trip to the west coast, as it will face host Southern California and Hawai’i in a two-day tri-meet.
Competition in Los Angeles, Calif., will begin Friday at 5 p.m. ET, and continue Saturday at 11 a.m. ET inside Uytengsu Aquatic Center.
Holloway’s Statement
“We’re excited to be heading to California to take on two quality teams. Both are teams that our women’s program has never gone head-to-head with until this year. We really only see them at postseason competition, so it’s nice to face both during the regular season,” said head coach Braden Holloway.
“Competing against quality schools like Southern Cal and Hawai’i is a great tool for us in terms of when we’re preparing for the end of the season. A lot of the teams we see at the NCAA Championships we’re not familiar with, because we don’t see them a lot.
“Racing out under the sun on the west coast is going to be a lot of fun and a good team trip for us. We’re looking forward to taking a great squad of hungry young ladies that are ready to represent NC State well on the west coast.”
Last Time Out
On Oct. 2-3, the Pack swept its fourth-straight All-NC Invitational, winning by more than a 300-point margin on both sides. Collectively, the Wolfpack men and women won 26 of the 40 events contested and earned 17 meet records on the weekend.
Scouting Southern California
The Trojans will enter the weekend matchup with a 1-0 record on the regular season after defeating Utah, 138.5-112.5, in its last time out.
Southern Cal returns 20 from last year’s team that earned a third-place finish at the PAC-12 Championships and eighth-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships. At last year’s NCAAs, the Trojans saw over 20 All-America performances.
Scouting Hawai’i
For Hawai’i, the trip to California will mark its season opener.
Last season, the Rainbow Wahine won the MPSF Conference Championship title, its first since the program moved from the Western Athletic Conference in 2006.
At the 2015 NCAA Championships, UH sent one swimmer, Jasmine Alkhaldi, and one diver, Aimee Harrison. Harrison earned honorable mention All-America honors on the one and three-meter diving events, while Alkhaldi qualified for the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events.
