Penny Oleksiak has had the meet of her life at the 2015 Canadian Swimming Trials, setting three new Canadian records including the 200m fly mark she set tonight.
In the heats Oleksiak was just off the 13-14 age-group mark of 2:15.17 in the 200m fly, clocking in at 2:15.58 .
That time in itself ranked her fourth going into the finals and was a huge drop from her seed time of 2:16.29.
The 14-year-old star took to the blocks in finals and raced some of the top fly swimmers in Canada. She came out very successful with a 2:15.05 to take a small chunk off Mary-Sophie Harvey’s record from 2013.
Oleksiak was the only swimmer in the final born in 2000 or earlier, with the second youngest swimmer being Jessie Gibson who was born in 1998.
Oleksiak competed with the likes of Audrey Lacroix, Noemie Thomas, and Jacomie Strydom who have all established themselves as some of the top flyers in the nation.
Oleksiak appears to be in the running to be one of Canada’s top swimmers if she can continue her winning ways.
