Texas high school state finalist Taryn Plows has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of California-Davis beginning in the fall of 2027. She announced the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m grateful to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at University of California, Davis! This journey would not have been possible without the support of my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has pushed me to be better along the way. Thank you God for leading me to this next chapter in life. A big thank you to @ucdavisswimdive for giving me this amazing opportunity. Excited for the next 4, GO AGS!!!
A rising senior at Carroll Senior High School in Flower Mound, Texas, Plows has been a member of the school’s varsity swimming team for the past three years. She currently trains year-round with Lakeside Aquatic Club, where she primarily specializes in backstroke.
A two-time qualifier for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A State Championships, Plows placed 12th in the 100 back (56.65) and helped the 400 free relay (53.00 split) take third and the 200 free relay (24.33 split) finish fifth this past February. As a sophomore, she touched fifth in the 100 back (56.64), which remains her current best in the event.
At Speedo Sectionals – Justin in late March, Plows clocked her lifetime best of 2:01.93 in the 200 back, crushing her previous personal best from March 2025 by nearly two seconds. She is still searching for a clear third event; her current bests of 25.03 in the 50 free, 54.03 in the 100 free, and 2:09.68 in the 200 IM make those the most likely candidates.

A Division I Mid-Major program, UC Davis competes in the Big West Conference, with the women’s team taking the runner-up spot at the conference championships this past season. Plows’ current career best would have qualified for the ‘B’ final in the 200 back, and she is less than two tenths off the 56.45 needed to earn a second swim in the 100 back, with two full seasons of training to potentially improve before her first conference meet.
Plows joins Jackie Furches as the only publicized commits in UC Davis’s class of 2031 so far.
