Kristof Milak added another Hungarian National Record to his resume, touching in a 22.86 at the 2026 Sette Colli meet in Rome. Milak breaks the previous record of a 22.90 set by Szebasztian Szabo at the 2019 World Championships.

Milak came into the meet with a lifetime best 23.03 that he swam in April. Milak now holds all three LCM butterfly national records for Hungary as he swam a 49.68 at the 2020(1) Tokyo Olympics in the 100 fly and a 1:50.34 200 butterfly at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. His 200 fly sits as the World Record.

The 26 year old took much of 2025 off, including withdrawing from the 2025 World Championships due to a lack of training and “motivation.” In late 2025, following an ultimatum from his club team to resume training, Milak confirmed his commitment to the 2028 LA Olympics.

Milak returned to competition at Hungarian Nationals in April where he swam his previous lifetime best in the 50 fly. Last month, he competed in two of three stops during the Mare Nostrum tour. He won the 100 fly two days ago in Rome at Sette Colli, touching in a 50.47.

I was surprised that Szabo had only swum as fast as 22.9 seconds. Since I’d seen him perform so well in short-course events, I’d mistakenly assumed his personal best was around 22.7 seconds.

Can you imagine what Milak could do if he actually went to practice, those poor federation coaches……

Hungarian federation should also reflect on why many other Hungarian-trained young talents who do the hard works (at least by their standards) keep getting slower and slower. Time to reconsider their training methods.

I’m so happy Milak is back in competition. He’s such a great Fly simmer. I hope Grousset is back for Euros. It would be so fun to watch Grousset, Ponti and Milak battle it out in that 100 Fly race.

Agreed. American hero no more to me 😔
Much of his recent social media are simply just “enhanced games lifestyle” advertisements.

Dear athletes: The Enhanced Games exists to sell supplements. There is no plan, strategy, or resources available to pay thousands of you.

Let’s demand honest change in how we pay athletes, how Olympic Sport systems can be improved, and how we can improve worldwide Clean Sport. We don’t need to sell our bodies or souls to billionaires to do it. But we all need to speak up.
