Penn Quakers Earn Commitment from TIDE’s Tara LaRusso

Virginia Beach, Virginia-native Tara LaRusso has expressed her intention to swim for the University of Pennsylvania beginning in the 2018-19 season. She will join Anna Newnam, Catherine Buroker, Grace Estabrook, and Grace Giddings in the Quakers’ class of 2022.

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Pennsylvania!! I can’t wait to be at a great school with such an amazing team! Go Quakers!!”

LaRusso is a senior at Frank Cox High School. She wrapped up her high school career earlier this month at the 2018 VHSL Class 6 State Meet, where she placed 8th in the 100 back (57.01) and 9th in the 100 fly (57.57). LaRusso swims year-round with Tide Swim Team. At Geneva Futures last summer she placed third in the 100m free and 6th in the 200 free, and she won the consolation final of the 100 back, all the while picking up new PBs in all three events. She opened this year’s long course season with new PBs in the 50 free and 50/200 back at PSS Austin.

LaRusso would have scored for Penn in the B final of the 200 back and the C finals of the 100 back, 100 fly, and 100/200 free at 2018 Women’s Ivy League Championships. Her top SCY times:

  • 50 back – 26.58
  • 100 back – 55.55
  • 200 back – 2:00.26
  • 100 fly – 57.07
  • 100 free – 51.53
  • 200 free – 1:50.42
