Just a few days after crushing Mitch Larkin‘s Australian Age Record and Aaron Peirsol‘s more-than-25-year-old All Comers Age Record in the 200m backstroke, 17-year-old Henry Allan was at it again.
Racing in the final of the 100m backstroke this evening at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Bendigo East’s Allan busted out a lifetime best of 53.45 to grab the gold.
Opening in 26.19 and closing in 27.26, Allan’s time shaved .04 off Isaac Cooper‘s All Comers Age Record of 53.49.
Allan defeated his competitors by a healthy margin tonight, with Thomas Garbanzo next to the wall in 56.25 followed by New Zealand’s Bruce Shen who notched 56.67.
Entering this competition, Allan’s career-quickest mark rested at the 53.72 he posted at the Queensland Championships last December.
Cooper’s Aussie Age Record in this event remains at the 53.43 established in 2021.
Allan now ranks 9th in the world on the season.

The teen’s time easily cleared the 55.78 selection standard needed to add the event to his lineup for this year’s Junior Pan Pacific Championships. Furthermore, his performance tonight would have grabbed the gold at the 2024 edition of that international event, clearing the 54.10 Canadian Aiden Norman produced as the champion.

Ismail having an incredible meet.
A sub-2 minute for Lillie McPherson! Wonderful!
The conveyor belt of female freestylers isn’t running as well as it once was, but we saw some positive signs in the past 20 minutes.
McPherson’s 1:59.33 in 200 Free probably the stand out.
there’s sadly not many outstanding athletes in the current 17-19 age group, but there are some potential in the current 14-16 group.
Thankfully we can survive a weaker generation given the current relay team are young enough to hang around to Brisbane.
And a 55 for Maya Zunker in the 16yos!
She has had a good meet.
Nice pair of 56s in the 15yo Girls 100 Freestyle
26.09 for Hine in 50 Fly 👍
I see Lukas Dunn and Chris Montana pulled out of the 200 back this morning
