All this writer had to do was call out the nation of France for being behind their previous years’ European Junior Championships medal haul and…bam! The nation responded with two golds on day four of the 2026 European Junior Championships.
University of Michigan commit Nathan Muratory ripped a monster lifetime best of 1:55.88 to take the boys’ 200m backstroke, giving his nation its first much-needed gold medal.
However, in the very next event this evening, countrymate Jeanne Lechevalier captured gold in the girls’ 200m backstroke, rocketing the nation of France up to rank 6th in the overall swimming medal table more than halfway through this meet.
Neutral Athletes, aka Russia, own the top spot as a nation with 19 pieces of hardware, including 7 golds. Great Britain is next in line with a total of 10 medals, comprised of 5 golds, 2 silvers, and 3 bronzes. Italy is holding strong in 3rd place with 10 medals, including 3 golds.
There are still two more days of competition, which means the overall European Junior Championships Trophy is still up for grabs.
