Swimming Canada Names 44 Athletes to Pan Pacs Roster Following Canadian Trials

2026 Canadian Swimming Trials

Swimming Canada has announced the roster for the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships, and it looks a little different than SwimSwam predicted following the conclusion of the meet.

After five days of competition, there were 40 athletes, 20 male and 20 female, who had earned a priority 1-4 qualification for the meet. As a reminder, these were the selection terms:

  1. A Finals event winners
  2. Fastest four eligible in the men’s and women’s 100 and 200 freestyles
  3. Swimmers who have hit the World Aquatics “A” standard this week will be put into the 2025 World Rankings and added to the team until 24 women and 24 men are chosen
  4. If spots remain, 2nd place finishers will be ranked based on proximity to the World Aquatics “A” standard and added to the team until the roster hits 24 women and 24 men.

There was also an “unforeseen circumstances” clause that allowed the Selection Committee to change the roster as they saw fit.

There are a few swimmers who did not earn a priority qualification. On the women’s side, Julie Brousseau, Brooklyn Douthwright, and Katherine Warkentin were all added to the roster after Ella Jansen, Kylie Masse, and Abigail McLeod declined their spots.

Jansen and Masse both won individual events at the meet, and earned automatic priority 1 qualifications to the meet. They are both on the Commonwealth Games roster as well, which seems to indicate they declined their spots in favor of that meet.

McLeod, 16, was a priority 4 qualifier through her 2nd place finish in the 1500 freestyle, touching in 16:44.22 to finish about 13 seconds behind Emma Finlin‘s 16:31.53. Warkentin, who did make the roster, finished 3rd in 16:49.57, about five seconds back of McLeod. While she is not going to be at the senior meet, she will likely attend the Junior Pan Pacs.

Brousseau finished 8th in the 200 free, 3rd in the 400 free, 3rd in the 800 free, and 4th in the 400 IM last week.

Douthwright was 14th in the 50 free, 6th in the 100 free, 5th in the 200 free, 8th in the 200 back, 4th in the 100 fly, and 3rd in the 200 IM.

On the men’s side, there were three men added from the predicted list, and one absent.

Oliver Blanchard, the 1500 freestyle champion, does not appear on the Pan Pacs roster despite earning a priority 1 qualification for his event win. He is likely going to be participating at the Junior Pan Pacs, however.

Sebastian Paulins, Francis Brennan, and Filip Senc-Samardzic were all added to the roster. Paulins finished 3rd in the 800 free and 1500 free, and is the clear replacement for Blanchard after he elected not to attend.

Brennan finished 7th in the 100 free and 6th in the 200 freestyle, and Senc-Samardzic was 6th in the 100 free, 7th in the 200 free, 4th in the 50 fly, and 7th in the 100 fly.
