2026 Canadian Swimming Trials: Priority 4 Athletes Will Likely Make Pan Pacs Roster; Day 4 Update

2026 Canadian Swimming Trials

There is just one night left of the 2026 Canadian Swimming Trials, and the chances are narrowing for athletes to earn their way onto the Pan Pacs Team.

The priority for selection in simple terms is as follows:

  1. A Finals event winners
  2. Fastest four eligible in the men’s and women’s 100 and 200 freestyles
  3. Swimmers who have hit the World Aquatics “A” standard this week will be put into the 2025 World Rankings and added to the team until 24 women and 24 men are chosen
  4. If spots remain, 2nd place finishers will be ranked based on proximity to the World Aquatics “A” standard and added to the team until the roster hits 24 women and 24 men.

There is also an “unforeseen circumstances” clause that allows the Selection Committee to change the roster as they see fit.

Over the first three days of the meet, we only tracked the priority 1, 2, and 3 athletes, but with more than 10 spots available on both teams after day 3, we decided to start tracking the priority 4 athletes as well.

In the event that there are more priority 4 athletes than available roster spots, the athletes would be ranked on their proximity to the AQUA ‘A’ standard and added in rank order. It does not seem like that will be an issue this week, pending a large number of athletes meeting the AQUA ‘A’ standard on the final day of competition.

After four days, there are 17 swimmers qualified in priority 1, with three swimmers being added to the P1 list today. Alexanne Lepage, Yuri Kisil, and Oliver Blanchard all earned their spots on the team via event win. Only Kisil was already on the team coming into the day, though he was a priority 2 athlete for the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay.

There was one swimmer who did not win their event, but still finished  under the ‘A’ standard (Priority 3), and that was Lorne Wigginton in the men’s 200 IM. Wigginton is already a P1 swimmer via his wins in the 200 free and 400 IM.

Finally, we added all the priority four athletes. As mentioned above, these are the athletes who finished 2nd in their event, but missed the qualifying standard. There were nine athletes who met these requirements and do not already have qualification in another priority, including Mary-Sophie Harvey, who withdrew from the meet this afternoon due to illness.

Once all the athletes were added, both the men’s and women’s teams have 18 athletes qualified, leaving six spots per gender up for grabs tomorrow before priority 4 athletes will be left at home.
