There are several big names scratching out of events on the final day of the 2026 Canadian Swimming Trials, including world medalists Kylie Masse and Finlay Knox. Masse’s decision is the most expected of the big names, as she skips the 50 fly, a secondary event for her. She was entered as the #3 seed in 26.71, and after scratching the 50 free yesterday it looks as though she ended her meet after winning the 50 back on day 2.
Knox’s scratch, meanwhile, comes in the 100 breast as he focuses on the 50 fly. He was the #2 seed in the former at 1:00.68, just off his 1:00.66 PB, but Oliver Dawson is the runaway favorite being seeded more than a second faster at 59.33. Knox is the top seed in the 50 fly in 23.57, and the event is far more open in Canada now with Ilya Kharun switching allegiance to the U.S.. Knox is having a good meet so far, winning the 100 fly and 200 IM, and placing third in the 100 free and fourth in the 200 free.
Ella Jansen will miss the 800 free, where she was the #2 seed, and the 50 fly, where she was the #8 seed, to instead swim the 200 back where she is the #5 seed. She won the 200 IM last night in 2:12.28, and has placed 2nd in the 400 IM and won the 400 free so far in Montreal.
Additional top ten seeds to scratch today are Ella Cosgrove, the #8 seed in the women’s 200 back, Benjamin Loewen, the #9 seed in the men’s 200 back, Ali Sayed, the #7 seed in the men’s 50 fly, and Sienna Angove, the #7 seed in the women’s 800 free. Cosgrove will instead swim the 800 free, while the other three will not swim at all on the final day here.
Mary-Sophie Harvey scratches the 100 breast as the #4 seed, having announced yesterday that she was withdrawing from the meet due to illness. She was the second star to withdraw for that reason this week, with Summer McIntosh pulling out after the 400 free prelims on the day 3.
