2026 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials

Mary-Sophie Harvey has scratched the 100 fly this morning, the only entry she had on day 3. After entering three events on the second day of competition and scratching two of them, she will now forgo an event in which she was seeded less than half a second off Taylor Ruck.

Harvey placed third in the 400 IM yesterday, the only event she swam on day 2. She was some way off her season and lifetime best of 4:34.59, clocking 4:43.26 to just miss the standard for the Pan Pacific Championships.

She placed second in the 200 fly on the first day of competition in 2:10.58, also missing the Pan Pacific Championships’ qualifying time. Harvey is not entered for the Commonwealth Games, so the Pan Pacific Championships would be her only meet this summer provided that she qualifies.

Ella Jansen, the #4 seed in the same event, is the other big scratch this morning. She placed second in the 400 IM last night to qualify for the Pan Pacific Championships, and will have the 400 free this morning. She is the #2 seed in that event behind Summer McIntosh.

Benjamin Loewen has scratched the 100 fly, having been the runner-up in the 200 fly on the first day of competition. He, like Jansen, is part of the 12-strong Commonwealth Games team, and has less than three weeks until that competition kicks off.

Might MSH be sick 🤧? She’s been tearing up the pool thus far this year so something must be up because these times are not indicative of the awesomeness she’s been delivering recently.

Not good for her and not good for Team 🇨🇦.

Does the Canadian selection process allow for any leeway or coaches selection because she was well under Qtimes earlier in the season?

Yes, selection procedures have a pretty vague “unforeseen circumstances” clause that lets them do pretty much whatever they want for whatever reason they want.
