2026 Canadian Swimming Trials: 20 Men and 20 Women Earn Priority 1-4 Qualifications For Pan Pacs

2026 Canadian Swimming Trials

The 2026 Canadian Swimming Trials are officially over, and after 5 days of competition, there are 40 swimmers who have earned qualification for this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships based on the first 4 priorities in Swimming Canada’s qualification system.

The priority for selection in simple terms is as follows:

  1. A Finals event winners
  2. Fastest four eligible in the men’s and women’s 100 and 200 freestyles
  3. Swimmers who have hit the World Aquatics “A” standard this week will be put into the 2025 World Rankings and added to the team until 24 women and 24 men are chosen
  4. If spots remain, 2nd place finishers will be ranked based on proximity to the World Aquatics “A” standard and added to the team until the roster hits 24 women and 24 men.

There is also an “unforeseen circumstances” clause that allows the Selection Committee to change the roster as they see fit.

On the final day of competition, only one swimmer was added to the overall roster. Matea Gigovic finished 2nd in the women’s 50 butterfly to Taylor Ruck, who won five events at this meet. Gigovic was not already qualified to the team, and her time of 26.38 was not under the AQUA ‘A’ standard of 26.23, so she is a priority 4 swimmer, but with only 19 other women qualified, she will likely earn an invite.

Madison Kryger and Ella Cosgrove both picked up priority 1 qualifications for their event wins. Kryger won the 200 back in 2:08.17, and Cosgrove won the 800 free in 8:40.35. Kryger was previously listed as priority 3, due to her ‘A’ cut in the women’s 100 backstroke, and Cosgrove was P4 after she was the runner-up in the 400 free.
