NCAA Relay Swimmer Evan Witte Of Pitt Enters Transfer Portal

Evan Witte has entered the transfer portal and becomes the latest swimmer for Pitt to enter the portal after head coach Chase Kreitler was resigned from his position, effective immediately. Athletes met with AD Allen Greene on Monday but athletes have said they “left with no real answers.”

Witte, a Minnesota native, just finished his freshman season with Pitt and helped the team’s 200 free relay to a 21st place finish at the 2026 NCAA Championships. He had a flying start split of a 19.23.

Witte swam numerous lifetime bests at the 2026 ACC Championships as he swam a 43.46 100 free and a 47.11 100 fly. He swam on the team’s 200 free relay in a 19.16 flying start during a time trial. Witte was the 4th fastest 50 freestyler and 5th fastest 100 freestyler on the roster this past season. The team has already lost Julian Koch, their top sprinter, as he announced his transfer to Tennessee.

Also entering the portal for Pitt is Brandon Richter. Richter did not swim at the 2026 ACC Championships and finished his season at the Ohio State Invite. There he swam a lifetime best 1:40.91 200 free and a lifetime best 46.11 100 free. Richter is originally from Maryland.

The two become the latest athletes to enter the portal for Pitt this week, bringing the total to seven athletes so far. The biggest name to enter into the portal is Sydney Gring who scored in all three of her individual events at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Alan Vergine, who was on the men’s 200 free relay at NCAAs with Witte, is also already in the portal.

Writing is on the wall. Team is likely being cut in the next couple seasons, so get out while you still can rather than swimming for a lame duck program and a lame duck coach.

I can confidently say that this isn’t happening.

Although it might not be possible given its nature, he should definitely join Evan Witte at the Air Force Academy. For the sake of having 2. The more the merrier right?

I’ve seen some pretty good reports that the AD is planning on maintaining funding at the current level and looking for a long term HC.

Witte is an incredible swimmer and teammate. Swam against him in high school, he’ll do great things wherever he ends up going!
