Kenyon College Receives Commitment from Futures Qualifier Daniel Brooks

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Daniel Brooks of Arlington, VA has decided to continue his academic and athletic career at Kenyon College beginning in the fall of 2020. He made the announcement by sharing, “I’m very excited to announce my commitment to Kenyon College. I’m extremely honored to have been given this opportunity by Coach Jess to continue my academic and swimming career with Kenyon College. I would never have expected to come this far and I’m thankful to all my coaches and friends who helped me get here. Go Lords!”

Brooks is currently completing his final year at Yorktown High School. In mid-February, he competed at the 2020 Northern Region Championships. The sprinter swam the 50 and 100 free and the 200-medley and 400-free relays. Yorktown opened the meet with a 5th place finish in the 200-medley relay. Brooks led off the event in finals with a 50 back split of 24.22, followed by Jack Carman on breast, KJ Morris Larkin on fly, and Jack Tsuchitani anchoring on free. Brooks completed his 50 free with a time of 21.44, going into finals placed 3rd. His entry time in the 100 free was a 49.32, and he shaved off 1.5 seconds in prelims to go a 47.82. He moved up a spot from prelims to finals to earn the bronze, out-touching Johnny Bradshaw of Langley High School with a time of 47.10. Brooks led off Yorktown’s 400-free relay with a time of 46.82. He was followed by Henry Rehr, Tsuchitani, and Luke Aslaksen who brought it home for a 6th place finish.

A week later, Brooks competed at the Virginia Class 6 State Meet, swimming the 50 free, 100 back, and the 200 and 400-free relays. He won the B-final of the 50 free, dropping 0.3 seconds from his time to earn a Futures cut. He led off his team’s 200-free relay with a time of 21.51. Tsuchitani, Aslaksen, and Tucker Wall joined him on the relay, which came in 19th. Brooks was entered in the 100 back with a time of 51.76. He went a 52.05 in prelims, which placed him 15th, and he went a 51.42 in finals. This moved him up to 10th place and earned him a second Futures cut. Yorktown took 10th place in the 400-free relay. Brooks swam the third leg in prelims and led off the relay in finals.

At the club level, Brooks swims for York Swim Club. Last March he competed at the Speedo Champions Series in Christiansburg. He swam the 50 free in a time of 22.34 and the 100 back in 54.07. In early March of this year, he swam the 50 (21.61) and 100 free (47.80) and the 100 back (53.04) at the Potomac Valley Senior Championships.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 21.14
  • 100 back – 51.42
  • 100 free – 46.82
  • 50 back – 24.22

Brooks will join the 2020 North Coast Athletic Conference champions in the fall. His times would allowed him to make it back to finals and score points for Kenyon at the conference meet. His 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back would all have made in back in the B-final.
