There are four scratches for the first finals session in Irvine. After swimming the 4th fastest time in the girls 200 fly this morning, Kayla Han has scratched. Han posted a 2:12.78, dropping a tenth off her lifetime best that she swam just two weeks ago. She notably did not race the event last summer and entered the season with a best time of a 2:14.59 from 2023.

Han has instead opted to focus on the 800 free that is at the end of the session. She is the top seed in the event by over six seconds, with an entry time of 8:35.57.

Also dropping the girls 200 fly was Paige Downey. Downey swam to a 2:15.95 this morning, dropping half a second off of her seed time. Like Han, Downey is in the fastest heat of the girls 800 free at the end of the session as she is the #4 seed.

Baylor Stanton swam the 16th fastest time in the boys 200 fly this morning with a 2:02.15 and followed that up with the 11th fastest time of prelims with a 26.48 50 back. Stanton will not do the double tonight as he has only opted for the 50 back.

Yi Zheng is also avoiding a double tonight. Zheng will focus on the 200 fly where he swam the 10th fastest time of the morning with a 2:00.78, rather than the 100 breast where he swam the 27th fastest time this morning with a 1:04.02. Both were lifetime bests and his 200 fly previous best was a 2:02.52.
