Katie Ledecky had a Katie Ledecky-esuqe weekend in Indianapolis, taking dominant wins in the 400 (3:59), 800 (8:12), and 1500 (15:34). The 14x Olympic medalist said May was one of the hardest, if not the hardest, blocks of training she’s had all season, but had hit a groove coming into Indy. She also commented on fellow Team USA-er Kate Douglass’ surprise world record in the 50 free, saying it’s always special to be in the building for the fastest time ever in an event, and it inspires everyone to be better.

You couldn’t ask for a better leader of team USA. Such a fan of who she is.
Ledecky extends her spectra in the pool.
First it was Mike “layup” Grella, now it’s Kate Douglass in the W 50 FR.
USA trolls Australia.
LOL!
What a class act. We are so lucky to have her ❤️
It’s sort of funny to me that to break the men’s 50 record Cam needs hyper specialized sprint revolution training including doing pull ups with 180 lbs or whatever, while Douglass is just like idk I’ve been doing Pilates lately
Comment of the week.
This belongs in the swimswam comment “hall of fame.”
While I don’t want to compare Douglass training with Cam’s, if she is doing things like ‘Power Pilates’, the training will not be far from Cam’s work.
lol I took the other angle, but I rambled too much as per usual.
swimming’s most versatile athlete vs the “I only swim this” guy.
Everybody is different.
The lesson here is training needs to be specific to the athlete. There is no “one size fits all”.
I’m finding this little party to be rather ironic, given that McEvoy. Hardly. Swims.
And…a whole lotta swimming!
A few points I can think of…
– Cam did years and years and years of pool training (he is a lot older than Kate ).
– Cam broke a super suit record and super suits covered a LOT more of a man than today’s suits do as you know. Women still get a lot of coverage with their current suits.
– Women can be trained harder for longer due to their lack of muscle. Recovery for men takes a lot longer.
– generally speaking, due to less women worldwide having swimming opportunities, there has been less competition in women’s swimming (the depth in some events has been far less).
Borat did tell me to make sure to find wife that is strong on plow.
Ok this is a funny comment Steve 😀.
But talk to any swim coach Steve. After a hard session, the women are really ready to go again the next day. The men are not.
Oh I think Kate and Cam are both just incredible of course.
Wow.
First of all the “comment of the century” with 5000 or whatever likes completely ignores one side of the coin.
(ie Kate swims! A lot! Meanwhile, Cam…you know…doesn’t! Does anyone want to compare hours training?)
Now “women are ready to go again, men are not, just ask any coach”.
Happy Fathers Day!!!
🤣 loved that one
