Kolkata, jo kabhi swimming ke liye ak thriving hub tha, ab apni youngest talents ke liye limited opportunities se joojh raha hai. Halanki, India ke ak former international sought ne iss anomaly ko change karne ki koshish ki. 23-24 November ko Eastern Metropolitan Club (EMC) me aayojit ak groundbreaking two-day club-level tournament ne uss change ki shuruaat ki.
Bengal me first time, iss event ne 7 saal ki age ke bachchon ko jeevant mahol me competitive swimming ke thrill experience karne ki opportunity pradan kiya, jisme pool ke kinare crowd utsah se bhari hui thi. Former national champion and iss event ke key organizers me se ak Akbar ne kaha, “Hamara primary aim young talent ko develop karna aur unhe competitive exposure pradan karna hai.”
Event ke dauran The Bridge se baat karte huye unhone yaad kiya ki pandemic ke baad khel kis tarah se ak naye low level par pahoch gaya.
“Covid-19 pandemic, ke baad Bengal me grassroots par swimming bahot neeche gir gayi. Bahot kam tournament hote hain, jisse 10 saal se kam age ke bachchon ke liye jagah nahi bachti. Ye initiative culture ko revive karne aur inn bachchon ko confidence and skills develop karne ke liye ak platform dene ka ak prayas hai,” Akabar ne kaha.
Competitive Void Ko Fill Karna
Invitational tournament me Kolkata ke 19 clubs se 7-14 saal ki age ke 210 budding swimmers ne participate kiya. Standout perform karne walon me Ahana Ray Sarkar, Anaya Nahar and Tapodhir Karmakar shamil the.
EMC ko represent karne wali Ahana aur Anaya ne apne intense rivalry se crowd ka man moh liya aur 4 events me first and second place haasil kiya. Iss beech, Indian Life Saving Society ke Tapodhir Karmakar ne boy’s competition me apna dominance kayam rakha aur 5 events me champion bane.
Halanki numbers impressive the, Akbar ne kaha ki agar wo 26 November se start hone wale 68th National School Games ke liye nahi gaye hote toh aur adhik swimmers isme shaamil ho sakte the. Akbar ne kaha, “7, 8 aur 9 saal ki age ke bachchon ko saalon se neglect kiya gaya hai.” “Agar bachche jaldi compete nahi karenge toh wo 12 saal ki age me aur bade competitions me participate lene par pressure ko handle kaise karene ?”
Currently, Swimming Federation of India har ak state se har category me keval 2 swimmers ko national level par compete karne ki permission deta hai. Halanki, Akbar ne jada inclusive approach ka tarika diya.
“Hamne Bengal Amateur Swimming Association ko proposal diya hai ki districts ko 2 ke bajay 4 swimmers ko state-level meets me bhejne ki permission di jaaye,” unhone kaha, saath hi unhone ye bhi kaha ki lower place par aane wale swimmers ko bhi reward dena chahiye.
