Joey Puglessi Gives Verbal To University At Buffalo

Junior National qualifier Joey Puglessi will be taking the plunge into collegiate swimming at the University at Buffalo next fall in order to train with the Bulls.

Puglessi is a talented backstroker with plenty of talent to bring to the team. In the 100 backstroke Puglessi’s best time is a 50.38 which he swam at the MHSAA Division III Championships. When he swam that time the Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School swimmer broke the meet record en route to taking home a victory in the race.

Puglessi hopes to continue his success in Buffalo. “I chose UB because I feel like my goals align very well with the goals of the team,” Puglessi said. “The team and coaching staff are incredibly motivated to achieve them.”

Puglessi has the opportunity to really make his mark on the school. His current 100 backstroke time would already rank him as the 10th best performer ever in the event in school history. His 200 backstroke would rank him as the seventh fastest UB swimmer in school history.

There are few swimmers currently on the active roster that are faster than Puglessi in the backstrokes. Buffalo’s main backstroke group of Hudson Carroll, Jon Ekas, and  Charles Barry will all be returning next season and will make very solid training partners for Puglessi.

“I can’t wait to spend the next four years with exceptional people at an awesome place. Go bulls!”
