Red Tide Masters Swimming (non-profit organization), is a thriving, diverse adult swim team based in NYC, is seeking a Head Coach.  With a legacy spanning decades, Red Tide supports swimmers of all levels—from adult beginners to national  champions, triathletes, and renowned open water swimmers.

We value camaraderie, fitness, and competitive spirit. Practices are held six days a week at John Jay College in  Midtown Manhattan: in the morning on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and in the evening on  Tuesday and Thursday.

Role Overview 

The Head Coach leads team training and development, working with swimmers aged 18–99. Responsibilities  include managing assistant coaches, designing seasonal training plans, collaborating with team leadership, and  attending or arranging coverage for meets and open water events. The ideal candidate will bring a joy and  enthusiasm for working with adults and helping them improve their swimming performance. The Head Coach  would also be on-deck coaching two or three workouts per week.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with the board on scheduling, coach hiring, and team development
  • Work with the board to promote Red Tide Masters Swimming, advance its brand of swimming  excellence, and contribute to team social media
  • Support and manage assistant coaches, schedule practices, and ensure adherence to seasonal plans; coordinate with John Jay athletic staff
  • Attend or coordinate coverage for meets and clinics

Coach Responsibilities (and duties of Head Coach when on deck coaching) 

  • Conduct engaging 90-minute workouts aligned with the seasonal plan
  • Teach stroke technique and swim strategy
  • Manage attendance and swimmer placement by lane
  • Promote a supportive team environment aligned with safe sport regulations and pool rules

Qualifications / Required 

  • Age 21+ and high School diploma or GED
  • USMS Coach Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience coaching competitive swimming
  • Solid understanding of stroke technique

Preferred 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • USMS Masters Coach Level 1 & 2
  • Lifeguard certification
