Job Description Summary
The Assistant Coach of Men’s Swimming is responsible for supporting the head coach in the management and operations of the Men’s Swimming team. Exercising good judgment and discretion, this position reports directly to the Men’s Swimming Head Coach. While effectively communicating the vision and mission of Liberty, this person is responsible for assisting in the coaching, management, administration, organization, recruitment, and retention of the Men’s Swimming team. This position will need to have achieved the necessary certification for coaching within the sport as determined by its national governing body.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
1. Support the Men’s Swimming Head Coach.
2. Coaching.
3. Travel with the team.
4. Assist with the recruitment of new student-athletes, and with maintaining the team squad size as determined by the University.
5. Assist with fundraising methods determined necessary by the head coach.
6. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
7. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position assists the head coach with the management/leadership of any volunteers or managers working with to the Men’s Swimming team.
Qualifications, Credentials, And Competencies
Four-year college degree: B.A. or B.S. in Business Management, Sports Management, or similar; 6 + years in an administrative function with 5+ of those years in Action Sports management and/or coaching. Strong leadership and communication experience are required. Well-developed communications skills. Current certifications are preferable.
Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Regularly lift 30 or fewer pounds. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
