Seeking experienced Age Group coach, USA Swimming certified.
The Head Age Group Coach will help grow the base of our program by working alongside the Head Coach developing our swimmers’ skills. The coach will lead approximately twelve to fourteen age group practices weekly in addition to assisting the head coach with three to four senior practices weekly, as well as attend one to two swim meets per month. Our swim coaches are a large part of what makes the Virginia Gators a high-level swim program and providing quality and engaging instruction is one the most important responsibilities of our coaches.

Major Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Age Group program by providing leadership and instruction to the Age Group swimmers and assistant coaches. Design and implement workouts that assist each swimmer in maximizing his/her potential.
- Attend and supervise all age group practices, as well as assist 3-4 senior practices weekly.
- Positively and proactively represent VAST Gators to the club’s member parents and swimmers as well as prospective club members, the region-wide swimming community and the local population.
- Develop and maintain a swim program that engages, excites, and develops athletes to meet their individually set goals through challenging and fun practices.
- Coordinate with the Head Coach on smooth transition between Age Group and Jr/Sr. Groups.
Expectations:
- Train, motivate, monitor progress, provide feedback and supervise swimmers in the development of proper stroke technique, endurance and racing skills in order to help each swimmer achieve his/her swimming goals.
- Attend scheduled swim meets, meetings, and team functions as required.
- Collaborate with the Head Coach and Director of Operations to manage the day-to-day operations of the Club and contribute to its long-term development.
- Based on each swimmer’s goals, encourage swimmers to attend meets, encouraging participation in regional and qualifying meets.
- Work with each swimmer to select appropriate races, discuss rationale for not approving a race selected with swimmers prior to the meet.
- Collaborate with swimmers (and parents as appropriate) on setting goals and help develop individual programs for swimmers to reach these goals.
- Maintain appropriate USA Swimming coaching certifications and training.
- Effectively manage assistant coaches, ensuring they conduct efficient and effective practices. If assistant coaches are not effective, raise concerns to the Head Coach and/or Board of Directors.
- Be prompt to meetings and practices.
- Give and receive direction effectively, and work well with others.
- Effectively represent the Virginia Gators and assist the club in fulfilling its vision, mission, and goal, in a positive and professional manner and in accordance with USA Swimming Code of Ethics and Conduct policies.
