Full Time Assistant Coach

Job Description:

POSITION: The City of Plano Swimmers (COPS), located in Plano, Texas is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Full Time Assistant Coach. This position will be focus on our Age Group Program, but will be expected to assist in any phase of the team as necessity dictates by the CEO/Head Coach.

BACKGROUND:  The City of Plano Swimmers operates out of 4 different facilities in the Collin county area. The club hosts between 5 and 7 meets during a normal swim year, including the Speedo Greater Southwest Invitational.  COPS is aggressively developing new strategies for the developmental stages of swimming and a prospective candidate must have the ability to use innovative programs as they are developed within the COPS system.

  • Water-side
    • Direct one or multiple group as assigned by CEO/Head Coach, including the management/running of daily practices, handle all administrative duties for the group (communication, entries, etc.), and supervise all assistant coaches assigned to the group. This must be done in a direction that supports the coaching philosophy and direction of the club as established by the CEO/Head Coach.
    • Establish and maintain relationships and open communications with swimmers and parents
    • Meet with the Age Group staff to outline practice sessions, meet schedules, and to discuss problems and/or opportunities.  The candidate will be able to function as a team player in planning and strategy.  The Head Age Group coach will provide direction as seen in the vision of the team by the CEO/Head Coach and the Dry Side Operations Coordinator. These meetings should also ensure that the management of the program remains united with one direction.
    • Create a positive team oriented atmosphere where swimmers learn the values of courage and perseverance
    • All City of Plano Swimmers coaches are energetic and supporters of the sport of swimming and COPS
  • Dry-side
    • Meet Coordinator – from sanctioning of meet through final post meet report
    • Timing System Operator and Manager
    • Work together with parent members of COPS Leadership Council to assure all meets and other COPS activities run as efficiently as possible
    • Train parent volunteers to fill major positions necessary to run a successful meet


  • College Degree (preferred)
  • Competitive Swimming Experience (required)
  • Coach of record for at least five AAA age group (12 & under) swimmers (required)
  • Have a working knowledge of Team Unify and Hy-Tek Software (required)
  • Have experience in dryland training for long-term athletic development (preferred)
  • Must be current, or be able to fulfill, all requirements to be a USA Swimming member coach (required)
  • Candidates must possess integrity, strong communications skills; and a passion for helping swimmers maximize their potential.


  • This is a salaried full-time position that includes benefits. A competitive salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
