Location: 11202 Harris Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078, USA

EVOLUTION AQUATICS is seeking multiple Age Group and Stroke Development swim coaches for immediate hire. Candidates need prior experience as a swim coach, swim instructor, and/or competitive swimmer. Positions are Salary or Hourly pay based upon experience and availability (full-time and part-time considered). Coaches will be expected to lead, and/or assist, with daily swim and dryland training sessions and attend weekend swim meets one to two times per month.

Evolution Aquatics is a year-round competitive and developmental aquatics program based in the Charlotte/Huntersville/Concord areas of North Carolina. Evolution Aquatics and Evolution Swim Academy are coach owned and operated programs. Programs are conducted at the team owned Evolution Aquatics & Activities Center – a 40, 000 sq. foot facility including 2 indoor pools, weight rooms, multi-purpose rooms, and with plans for an outdoor 50 meter competition pool and splash park. Opportunities exist in other programs conducted at the EAAC (after-school, summer rec swim teams, summer camps, swim lessons, lifeguarding, etc.) Evolution Aquatics takes pride in building an inclusive and safe environment for all participants.

As new coaches with Evolution, candidates will be in the unique position to help our post pandemic growth by building our team for the future! This is an opportunity to leave a lasting impression on a growing team that is seeking innovators and teachers who wish to build a facility-wide program that will create a long-lasting positive impact on Huntersville and surrounding communities.

Evolution Aquatics  Coaching Environment

Evolution Aquatics coaches must display a love for swimming that brings them to the pool every day excited to help meet athletes “where they are” and help them “evolve” into the best version of themselves! Collaboratively, we work hard to help our swimmers grow as athletes and to become positive peers and community leaders. Strong communication between coaches is vital to the success of the swimmers as well as the coaches. All coaches must be able to share credit with co-workers, display enthusiasm, and promote a positive work environment. Evolution staff work closely with one other, substituting for each other, as necessary.

Age Group Coaches will be instrumental in helping with team development and season planning. Any coaches assisting with groups are expected to be independent thinkers and to bring their own ideas to practice every day. All coaches must learn how to write workouts and determine which drills/training techniques are appropriate for each training group within the Evolution training program. If you do not know how to do this already, you must be willing to learn.  Age Group Coaches must demonstrate ability and willingness to log or keep records of workouts, track swimmers’ progress, (such as the results of test sets) and take attendance every day using the On Deck app. Workout organization and meet entries is vital to the success in this role.  Stroke Development Coaches must be knowledgeable, creative, patient, and flexible while paying great attention to instructional detail. Emphasis on technique over speed, and teaching versus training, is imperative at these foundational levels. Stroke Development Coaches must demonstrate the ability and willingness to keep accurate attendance, communicate/educate parents about the sport of swimming, and maintain an inclusive teaching aquatic sphere.  Both Age Group and Stroke Development coaches will be expected to hold parent education meetings each season and send weekly (bi-weekly or monthly, depending on the group) updates to parents.

Evolution Aquatics uses both Team Unify and Commit to manage our team and our training and candidates must be proficient in both (or comfortable enough with software programs to learn). Age Group and Stroke Development Coaches who are also involved with the Evolution Swim Academy will also be required to learn how to use and track swimming skills using JackRabbit.

All Evolution coaches are expected to be energetic and fun-loving, students of the sport who take pride in seeing others succeed. Our coaches should keep up to date of industry news and be generally aware of major trends in the sport of swimming.

Evolution coaches serve as leaders/mentors to our swimmers and must set a good example on and off the pool deck. Team uniforms in the form of team outfitting will be provided upon hiring. Coaches are expected to arrive to practice early every day, in uniform, to assist with preparations both for swimming and dryland.

Coaches are also the “first face” of the swim team to parents and prospective members; therefore, it is vital that all coaches are respectful and polite. The positive impact a coach has on their athletes is what keeps athletes coming to the pool every day, and the number one selling point for all others interested in joining the team. Coaches must be positive and uplifting when interacting with all swimmers and parents, and encouraging to all athletes, regardless of current skill levels or abilities. All swim coaches must be physically capable of standing on the pool deck for multiple hours at a time. Walking, carrying, and lifting heavy objects will also be occasionally required of all members of the coaching staff. Coaches must be able to work evenings and weekends. Early mornings and late evenings may occasionally be required of all members of the coaching staff during swim meets.

Finally, all Evolution coaches must fully embrace our team philosophy of “teach first, train second”. These positions are not for those wishing to “train” senior level swimmers; these positions are to work with swimmers ages 6-14.

  • Well-organized, punctual, and adaptable (think Swiss army knife)
  • Enthusiastic about swimming and teaching

  • Former or current competitive swimmer preferred

  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches (STSC)/Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED Certified
