Aquatics Head Coach and Varsity Swim Coach

Friends Select School is seeking a Head Coach for its Aquatics Program and School Swim Teams. This individual will lead oversight of the Friends Select Aquatics (FSA) program as well as the Middle School and Upper School swimming programs. FSA is a year-round USA swimming club that competes in the Middle Atlantic LSC and continues to grow, currently serving approximately 100 swimmers. The Head Coach will be responsible for coaching and instructing athletics across multiple age groups and skill levels. This includes developing and implementing structured practice plans, effectively communicating with assistant coaches, and ensuring a positive and competitive training environment. This role also requires attendance at USA swim meets and coverage of practices during meet weekends as needed. As a full-time position, the Head Coach will have off-deck responsibilities, including program planning, administrative duties, and team development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of Friends Select Aquatics (FSA) club
  • Oversight of aquatics facilities, equipment, and maintenance schedule
  • Identification, training, supervision, and evaluation of all lifeguards
  • Currency in the American Red Cross standards or procedures for pool use, swimming lessons, and lifeguarding skills
  • Coordination of all pool and swimming-related activities of approved school programs
  • Maintain Lifeguard certification and the ability to certify lifeguards
  • Develop swimmers through the established curriculum focused on long term athlete development
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices
  • Meet with other staff for planning, to discuss progress of groups and any problems that may arise
  • Assist in running dual meets for the Middle School and Varsity teams
  • Pick events for swimmers of designated groups for club meets 
  • Assess the needs of each swimmer and provide appropriate support and guidance

Desired Qualifications:

  • College Degree (preferred)
  • Desire & passion for developing swimmers at a competitive level
  • Patient and ability to give simple instructions
  • Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills
  • Expertise with current technique development and training methodologies
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated team player
  • Team Unify /Hy-Tek Meet/Team Manager skills (a plus)
  • 2 years competitive swimming experience (preferred)
  • Current USA Swimming membership, or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire
  • Willingness to complete various online trainings, as required by the school
