Hosszu Clears Olympic Record in 200 IM Prelims

2016 RIO OLYMPIC GAMES

On day 3 of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Hungarian star Katinka Hosszu continued to smash records with her swim in the women’s 200 IM preliminaries.

Winning the final heat this morning, Hosszu took down the Olympic Record with a 2:07.45, which gives her the top seed for tonight’s semifinals. The previous record a 2:07.57 done by by China’s Ye Shiwen in her gold medal swim at the 2012 London Olympics.

Hosszu’s Splits:

50 100 150 Final Time
28.01 1:00.11 1:37.05 2:07.45

Hosszu’s Splits For Each 50:

Fly Back Breast Free
28.01 32.10 36.94 30.40

Earlier in the meet, Hosszu olbiterated the World Record in the women’s 400 IM, lowering it from a 4:28 to a 4:26. She should be able to easily make it through semifinals tonight and on to the final round, where she has a shot at sweeping the Olympic IM races.

Hosszu already owns the World Record in this race, which she set at 2:06.12 at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan. Given the way she’s performed so far in Rio, it wouldn’t be suprising to see her take her own record down.

I really hope she’s clean. Ive been hugely inspired by her the last couple years. What her and Tusup have created for themselves is so incredible and truly the future of our sport. Traveling, practicing by racing, the confidence, the branding (and letting IRON LADY exist as more than just a catch phrase, but a way of life) its truly incredible. I believe that she is clean and that Tusup is a genius.

She has passed over 100 tests this year alone. Yes she is clean. She is also one hot lady! Many of the US Team Members have a crush on her! She is the best swimmer in the 2016 Games as well. If Hungary would get off their duff and have other fast swimmers she could win 9 Gold medals in these games!
