Hayden Ghufran Sends Verbal to Arizona for Fall of 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

From Granite Bay, California where he trains with DART Swimming, Hayden Ghufran will join the University of Arizona as a part of their freshman class of 2022. Ghufran is currently in his junior year at Granite Bay High School.

At the Champions Series meet last spring at College Station, Ghufran was a finalist in both of the fly races. His best finish came in the 200 fly, where he swam to a long course meters time of 2:06.50 during finals. In the short course yards prelims of the event, he touched in 1:50.33. Since that meet, he has hit new best times in both butterfly events, as well as multiple others. This March, he lowered his best in the 200 fly to 1:48.17 and 100 fly to 49.67. At that same meet, he also swam to a new lifetime best in the 500 free, where he touched in 4:25.88.

Best SCY Times

  • 200 free – 1:40.36
  • 500 free – 4:25.88
  • 1650 free – 15:46.72
  • 100 fly – 49.67
  • 200 fly – 1:48.17

In 2021, the Wildcats finished in third at the Pac-12 Championships. Arizona struggled in the distance freestyle events behind the program’s distance standout, Brooks Fail. Fail was the only Wildcat that scored in at Pac-12’s in either the 500 or 1650. He would go on to claim 3rd in the 500 and 4th in the 1650 at the NCAA Championships. Fail will graduate before Ghufran arrives on campus in 2022.

With Ghufran’s best times, he would have narrowly missed scoring points at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships. In the 500, only a tenth of a second would have separated him from finishing 16th in prelims, while his 1650 was just over 10 seconds out from 16th.

Ghufran will be joining Tommy Palmer, who is a three-time Nebraska state champion, and Billy Oates, who is a Washington high school state champion, as a member of the class of 2022.
