As a freshman, Fail made great improvements, and ended up qualifying for the NCAA championships in a time trial at the PAC-12 championships even though he was left off of Arizona’s scoring team for the meet. At the NCAA’s, Brooks placed 40th in the 500 free, 34th in the 400 IM, and 17th in the 1,650, while also swimming on Arizona’s 16th place 800 free relay.

2018-2019

With a year off experience under his belt, Fail continued to flourish. At the NCAA championships, he kicked things off with a 4:10.77 in the 500 to touch for 3rd place, marking his first individual All-American title. He also finished 34th in the 200 free and 18th in the 1,650.
