Gretchen Walsh swam to another meet record in the 100 butterfly. After posting a 55.47 to set a new Sette Colli meet record this morning, Walsh touched in a 54.82 tonight. That swim also sits as the #5 performance all-time and Walsh’s 5th time breaking the 55-second mark. Prior to today, the meet record stood at a 56.04 set by Sarah Sjostrom in 2015.

Walsh holds the World Record with a 54.33 from the Fort Lauderdale Open at the start of May. Her time tonight was faster than her swim of a 55.00 that she swam just last weekend at the Pro Series in Indianapolis. In Indianapolis as well as yesterday in Rome, Walsh has said she has a goal to become the first woman to go sub-54 in the long course 100 fly. She will is the only sub-55 second woman in the event and holds the top 15 performances in history as Torri Huske‘s 55.52 sits as the #16 swim all-time.
The 23 year old Walsh swam to an American Record during yesterday’s finals session in Rome, swimming to a 24.51 in the 50 butterfly. That was the #2 performance all-time, only behind Sjostrom’s World Record of a 24.43.
