Florida 1A State Champ Robert Cecil Commits to Northwestern

Two-time Florida High School Athletic Association Class 1A state champion Robert Cecil has verbally committed to swim for Northwestern University next fall. Cecil won both the 50y free (20.73) and 100 free (45.07) at the 2016 championship meet in November. Swimming for Tampa’s Berkeley Preparatory School, Cecil also swam the leadoff legs on both the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.

“I am extremely excited to attend Northwestern University and have the opportunity to continue my swimming career. I feel that challenging myself in the pool and in the classroom has been very important in my success in both athletics and academics. I immediately connected with the coaches and the team during my visit. I can’t wait to start school in the fall! Go Cats!!!!”

Cecil swims year-round with Berkeley Barracudas. He competed at 2016 Winter Juniors East in the 50/100/200 freestyles and time trialed the 500 free and 100 fly, notching best times in all but the 50/100 free (he had achieved those at the FHSAA 1A meet). His top SCY events are:

  • 50 free – 20.73
  • 100 free – 45.07
  • 200 free – 1:40.29
  • 500 free – 4:38.06
  • 1000 free – 9:46.80
  • 100 fly – 53.98

The Wildcats are assembling an impressive class of 2021; Cecil will be joining fellow commits George Horvath, Jeffrey Durmer, Keegan Bundy, Liam Gately, Lyon Zhang, and Peter Lewczyk.
