Emma Overall Hits New 1650 Free Program Record At Houston First Chance

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team finished out its season at CRWC Natatorium on Saturday. The Cougars collected one NCAA Cut, four Top-10 program times, and 18 personal bests against competitors from Rice and TCU.

Freshman Emma Overall stunned in the 1650-yard freestyle landing a new program record with a personal best time of 16:28.02.

Junior Sydney Nethercutt collected the lone NCAA Cut of the meet in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.02.

Four Cougars collected new Top-10 program times. Freshman Isabelle Wilson landed the ninth-fastest time in program history in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:38.23.

Sophomore Regina Torres Pomar and redshirt senior Alondra Ortiz etched their name in the books with a tenth-place mark in the 100-yard backstroke (54.38) and 100-yard butterfly (54.50), respectively.

HOUSTON – The Rice swimming and diving team concluded competition at the First Chance Meet on Saturday at the CRWC Natatorium, hosted by Houston.

The Owls finished the meet with seven swimmers recording personal-best performances. Reese Cole kicked it off by touching first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.18. Avery Karacz followed with a personal best of 1:48.75 in the 200 freestyle.

Lily Cramer posted a career-best 1:02.60 in the 100 breaststroke, while Ava Portello recorded a personal-best 49.99 in the 100 freestyle. Lily Archibald also turned in a strong performance in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 50.56.

Cole added another personal best in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.20, and Catherine Eland rounded out the list with a 2:05.49 in the 200 butterfly.

Rice will compete next at the American Conference Championship, set for Feb. 18–21 in Greensboro, N.C., where the Owls will look to defend their conference title.
