NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Cornell women’s swimming and diving team defeated Columbia 197–103 on Friday afternoon at Percy Uris Natatorium. Cornell won 13 of the 16 events and recorded multiple point-scoring finishes throughout the meet to secure the victory.
Cornell opened the meet with a win in the 3-meter diving event, as Lilla Kumziemko placed first with a score of 274.80. Julia Wilkinson followed in second with 266.63 points, while Morgan Ogata finished fourth with 257.85. The Big Red then won the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of Mingna Xu, Nicole Byrnes Cortinas, Sadye Derstadt, and Kate Li touching first in 1:41.59. Cornell’s B relay of Aly Yokoyama, Min Xu, Katie Yee, and Ariel Lin placed third in 1:43.94. Erin Dehollander earned Cornell’s next victory by winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:59.84.
Jungmin Yoon won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.63, followed by Arina Vorobyeva in second at 1:51.23 and Isabela Teixeira in fourth at 1:51.86. Rosalee Springer led a Cornell sweep in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in 54.56, with Yoon second in 55.33 and Yokoyama fourth in 55.70. Audrey Holden added a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.22, while Xu placed fourth in 1:04.79 and Byrnes Cortinas finished sixth in 1:05.45.
Yee claimed first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.09. Oceane Vanlinthout followed in second at 2:02.56, and Isabel Peng placed fourth in 2:04.29. In the 50-yard freestyle, Li finished second in 23.36, Kyleigh Tangen placed third in 23.80, and Mingna Xu took fourth in 23.87. Cornell also collected points in the 1-meter dive, as Kumziemko placed second with a score of 271.58, Ogata finished third with 260.55, and Brooke Andrews placed fourth at 258.83.
Li earned a win in the 100-yard freestyle, touching first in 51.12, followed by Yoon in third at 51.23 and Tangen in fourth at 51.50. Hojung Yoon won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:57.31, with Springer finishing third in 2:00.01 and Yokoyama fifth in 2:01.87. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Katherine Ferreira placed third in 2:18.42, with Byrnes Cortinas finishing fourth in 2:20.68 and Xu fifth in 2:21.16.
Dehollander earned her second win of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.53, while Vorobyeva placed fourth in 5:04.32. Yee added another victory in the 100-yard butterfly, winning in 55.15, and Mingna Xu finished fourth in 56.44. Cornell closed the meet with a win in the 200-yard IM, as Hojung Yoon touched first in 2:00.83, followed by Vanlinthout in second at 2:04.00 and Ferreira in third at 2:04.15. The Big Red ended the day by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Jungmin Yoon, Tangen, Li, and Springer finishing first in 3:24.07.

The Big Red opened the meet on the boards, where Max Trovillion placed second on the 3-meter with a score of 314.18, followed closely by William Klingensmith in third (307.35). Cornell again claimed second and third on the 1-meter, with Trovillion (316.13) and Klingensmith (305.85) finishing just behind Columbia’s Joseph Nicol.
Cornell picked up several individual wins. Haihan Xu captured the 100-yard breaststroke in 53.78, edging Columbia by just five-hundredths of a second, and later added a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke (1:57.76). Pietro Ubertalli delivered a standout performance in the backstroke events, winning the 200-yard backstroke in 1:44.72 and finishing third in the 200 freestyle (1:37.95).
Cornell also showed strength in the butterfly events. Jacques Grove placed third in both the 200 butterfly (1:48.15) and the 100 butterfly (48.41), while Andrew Lin and Leo Cerda added scoring swims in each race.
In sprint freestyle action, Josh Toothman took second in the 50 free (20.21), while Daniel Simoes finished second in the 100 free (44.75). Cornell’s depth showed in the distance events as well, with Julian Correa placing third in the 1000 freestyle (9:18.19) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (4:32.87).
The Big Red closed the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the quartet of Ubertalli, Simoes, Toothman, and Grove touched in 2:57.65.

NEW YORK — The Columbia women’s swimming and diving team returned home to Percy Uris Natatorium on Friday evening to host Cornell in Ivy League action. The Lions turned in several strong individual and relay performances but fell to the Big Red, 197-103.
Columbia opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as the A relay of Shaelyn Shields, Ashley Hong, Ella Chan, and Sally Ma touched in 1:41.85.
The Lions saw success early in the distance events, led by Lindsay Orringer’s runner-up finish in the 1000 freestyle (10:00.00). Mia Avansino followed in third (10:09.67), while Meredith Stewart added a fourth-place showing to give Columbia three top-four finishers in the event.
In the sprint freestyle events, Ma delivered a highlight performance, capturing first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.24 and later placing second in the 100 freestyle (51.16). Isabel Lee added points with a fifth-place finish in the 100 free.
Columbia’s breaststroke group produced a strong showing, led by Natalia Diaz’s victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.06). Hong followed closely in second (2:18.09), giving the Lions a 1–2 finish in the event. Earlier, Diaz placed second in the 100 breast (1:03.91), while Hong added a third-place finish.
In the butterfly events, Annabelle Kung led the Lions with a third-place finish in the 200 fly (2:03.91), followed by Hayley Reed in fifth. Chan added a runner-up performance in the 100 fly (55.67), while Kung placed third again in the event.
The Lions also picked up points in the backstroke events, as Jilly MacNamara placed third in the 100 back (55.51) and later added a runner-up finish in the 200 back (1:57.58). Lorelai Page contributed with a fourth-place showing in the 200 back.
Columbia closed the meet in the 400 freestyle relay, as the A relay of Ma, Lee, Chan, and Audrey Wolk finished second with a time of 3:26.71.
On the boards, Chloe Leung delivered a standout performance, winning the 1-meter dive with a score of 281.93. Valeriya Bondarenko added points with a third-place finish in the 3-meter (258.45), while Lily Sherman placed fifth.
“A stunning performance by Chloe in the 1-meter,” Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. “An NCAA Zone score and a personal best. It was the absolute highlight of the meet.”

NEW YORK — The Columbia men’s swimming and diving team earned a decisive Ivy League victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Cornell, 203-97, at Percy Uris Natatorium. The win marked Columbia’s second consecutive Ivy League victory to open the 2026 calendar and its third conference win of the season.
“The Lions swam well in earning a good win over Cornell today,” Head Coach Jim Bolster said. “Right from the start we attacked our swims in an effort to keep the Big Red from gaining any momentum and it worked as we won the first four events and never looked back.”
Columbia set the tone immediately, winning the opening 200 medley relay as the A team of Isaac Beers, Beri Yang, Brian Lee, and Zion James touched first in a pool record time of 1:26.28.
The Lions followed that performance with a dominant showing in the distance events, led by Zach Vasser’s victory in the 1000 freestyle (9:03.82), with Stephen Zhukov finishing second and Bryce Key adding a fourth-place result to secure major early points.
The Lions controlled the freestyle events throughout the afternoon. Gian Santos captured wins in both the 200 freestyle (1:36.37) and the 500 freestyle (4:28.36), while Adam Wu added a second-place finish in the 200 free. In the sprints, James delivered a pair of victories, touching first in the 50 freestyle (19.56) and the 100 freestyle (43.59).
Columbia also posted strong results in the stroke events. Beers won the 100 backstroke with a new pool record of 46.81, while Wu claimed first in the 200 butterfly (1:46.91). Jerry Yan added another win for the Lions in the 100 butterfly (47.98). In the breaststroke events, Joshua Corn captured the 200 breaststroke title (1:56.59) and finished second in the 100 breast, with Yang contributing additional points.
The Lions were dominant in the individual medley events, as Santos won the 200 IM (1:49.23), followed closely by Ali Elmasry in second. Elmasry also added points with a runner-up finish in the event, continuing Columbia’s depth across disciplines.
Columbia closed the meet in emphatic fashion, winning the 400 freestyle relay. The A relay of Wu, Samuel Eckert, Derek Hitchens, and James touched first in 2:55.44 to seal the Ivy League victory.
On the boards, Joseph Nicol delivered a standout performance, winning both the 3-meter dive (319.13) and the 1-meter dive (318.68). Will Cooley and Derek Hong added scoring finishes in each event to further extend Columbia’s advantage.
“Joe was struggling a little in the first event and came back to win it,” Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. “Really clutch when it counted. Everyone is lifting their game and we are really looking forward to our senior meet next weekend.”
