Clark Smith, Tasija Karosas Named Big 12 Swimmers of the Week

Three Longhorns and a Cyclone are this week’s Big 12 Swimming and Diving weekly award winners. Texas’ Clark Smith and Tasija Karosas are the swimming honorees, while Texas’ Mark Anderson and Iowa State’s Elyse Brouillette earned diving accolades.

The honor marks the fourth career weekly award for Anderson and the third for Brouillette. Clark has been recognized twice, while Karosas is honored for the first time in her career.

MEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Clark Smith, Texas, Jr., Denver, Colo.
Smith toppled a Texas, Big 12, NCAA and American record in the 1,000-yard freestyle (8:33.93) at the Texas Invitational, while also breaking a conference record in the 500 freestyle (4:08.82). The junior added a third first-place finish to his resume tallying the nation’s third-best time in the 200 freestyle (1:33.36). Smith finished the meet with three top finishes and two top-ranked national times.

WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Tasija Karosas, Texas, Jr., Stowe, Vt.
Karosas broke a nearly five-year conference record in the 200 backstroke and posted the nation’s second-fastest time in the event (1:50.49) at the Texas Invitational. The junior helped the Horns post a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay with a 1:45.64 split and a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a 48.97 split.

MEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Mark Anderson, Texas, Jr., Lake Forest, Calif.
Anderson posted two top finishes on the 3-meter and platform diving event at the UT Diving Invitational. The Lake Forest, California native posted a season-best score of 451.95 on the platform and 458.15 on the 3-meter board. He added a fourth-place finish on the 1-meter dive with a score of 355.05

WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Elyse Brouillette, Iowa State, Sr., Omaha, Neb.
Brouillette led the Cyclones with five top five finishes over the KU Dive Invitational and Hawkeye Invitational. The senior posted two top finishes, scoring 270.35 on the 3-meter dive and 219.75 on the platform dive at the KU Dive Invitational. Brouillette qualified for the finals on all three events at the Hawkeye Invitational, recording a third (3-meter), fourth (1-meter) and seventh-place (platform) finish.
