Bryant Women Move To 5-0, Holy Cross Men Set Two Pool Records In Split Dual

WORCESTER, Mass. —  The Bryant University women’s swimming and diving team dominated from start to finish Friday at the Hart Center, defeating Holy Cross 194.5–105.5 and remain 5-0 on the season.

Meet Highlights

  • The Bulldogs swept the 200-yard medley relay, as the A relay of Clara Steen, Jocie Niemczyk, Sofia Doersch, and Marcella Figueroa placed first in 1:46.67.
  • Bryant claimed the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle, led by Katherine Bailey (10:29.28), Makayla Pearce (10:35.05), and Aurelie Honsberger (10:48.15).
  • Jill Carline earned first in the 200 freestyle at 1:57.82, with teammate Elise Richardson (2:00.57) finishing third.
  • Jacqui Fox (58.48), Steen (58.64), and Martha Sell (59.52) swept the 100 backstroke podium.
  • Niemczyk took the 100 breaststroke (1:05.93) and later won the 200 breaststroke (2:24.45).
  • Ruby Tonelli won both butterfly events — the 200 fly in 2:04.39 (a pool record) and the 100 fly in 55.37 (another pool record).
  • Avery Bischoff and Megan Beasley finished 1–2 on the 1-meter board, with Bischoff scoring 274.88 and Beasley 268.88.
  • The Bulldogs closed the meet with a first place win in the 400 free relay as Carline, Doersch, Sabrina Schuster, and Hannah King clocked 3:38.77.
 WORCESTER, Mass. — The Bryant men’s swimming and diving team fell just short in a back-and-forth dual, edged 154–146 by Holy Cross on Friday at the Hart Center.

Meet Highlights

  • Bryant’s top relay of Roman San JuanNick Austin, Tim Andrews, and James Misto was disqualified for a false start in the 200 medley relay, but the “B” team of Ryan ConnorsDerek McIntyreClinton Cupples, and Herrick Stevenson finished second in 1:37.42.
  • Patrick Maldonado (9:57.35) and Raymond Stelmark (10:02.63) went 2–3 in the 1000 freestyle.
  • Arthur Newton (1:43.50) and Nick Andrews (1:44.44) took second and third in the 200 freestyle.
  • Calix Hammett led got firs in the 100 backstroke, winning in 52.71, followed by Zach Proulx (53.23).
  •  T. Andrews captured the 100 butterfly (50.48), leading a Bryant 1–2 finish with Misto (51.52).
  • Christopher Buonocore dominated diving, winning both boards — 338.40 points on 1-meter (a pool record) and 335.40 on 3-meter.
  • Maldonado won the 500 freestyle in 4:44.55, with Stelmark third (4:47.72).
  • Bryant closed with a victory in the 400 free relay, as Misto, Hammett, Andrews, and Newton took first in 3:07.68.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Devin Brindle and sophomore Brenna Short both won two events, but the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Bryant 194.5-105.5 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 1-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 2-0 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Brindle won both the 50-yard freestyle (24.42) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.16), in addition to coming in second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.19).
• Short claimed first place in both the one-meter (274.88) and three-meter (307.20) diving, with her three-meter scored setting a new Hart Center pool record.
• Other Crusaders to finish in second place included junior Kat Anticev (200 -yard freestyle / 1:59.22), sophomore Natalie Neno (100-yard breaststroke / 1:08.70) and sophomore Ellie Reinhart (200-yard backstroke / 2:08.43).

• Holy Cross will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 8, when it takes part in the Worcester City Championship.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Zach Bubonovich set a new pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke, as the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team defeated Bryant 154-146 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. Bubonovich was also part of the 200-yard medley relay team, which broke the pool record for the second time this season. The Crusaders improve to 2-2 on the year with the victory, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-3 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Jack Greiner, Bubonovich, freshman Andrew Villani and junior Will Clark broke the Hart Center Pool record with their first-place time of 1:33.19.
• As an individual, Bubonovich won both the 100-yard breaststroke (56.79, Hart Center Pool record) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.10).
• Greiner added three first-place finishes, in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.16), the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.02) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.19).
• Sophomore Peter Mottolese placed first in two events, winning the 100-yard freestyle (47.03) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.20).
• Junior Austin Cutcher finished in first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:53.45).

• Holy Cross will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 8, when it takes part in the Worcester City Championship.
